SPECIAL MESSAGE:

I am no longer promoting any income generating plans, website traffic generators or any other tools for working at home.  I am simply offering practical advice and encouragement to help self-employed Christians keep their eyes on God - and do all things in a manner that honors Him.

Increasing Our Resources While Sharing Our Faith

WELCOME!

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

I'm glad you're here -  I've been praying for you.  I've asked our Father to lead and guide my brothers and sisters here - to this safe place where you can learn from my mistakes and benefit from the hours of work I've dedicated to finding legitimate work-at-home opportunities and resources.  I hope to offer encouragement, support and practical resources as you run your business in a manner that honors God.

A BRIEF ADMONITION:

You will see various mentions of 'success' throughout this website and in the Seven Biblical Principles for Success series.  Please don't make one of my earlier mistakes and think the definition of 'success' is 'prosperity'.  Success is whatever our loving Father determines needs to be done in your life in order to accomplish a closer walk and faith in Him.  For me, for a season, Psalm 119: 72-3 defined success.  I was 'afflicted' and far from 'prosperous', but it was worth so much more than 'silver or gold' in order to learn His decrees.  This website and the ebook are NOT instructions for 'How to make God prosper you'!  They are instructions for running a business in a manner that honors God.  He will do what He will do - and it will be good and right.

Blessings,  In Jesus,

FOOD FOR THOUGHT...

Have you studied and prayed yet today?

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Whoa, I wasn't even out of bed yet and the phone was ringing!  I chatted with my client while making the coffee and delivering it, along with the toast to my husband - in bed.  (He's spoiled!).  Of course, while chatting with my client, I had to fire up my laptop and look a few things up for him.  An hour later, we hung up the phone and I continued to open my email and check my affiliate statements.  After all, I had already checked two of my mailboxes while on the phone - I might as well check the other three, right?  And wouldn't you know it - there were three emails that were urgent!  They just couldn't wait.  Well, you know how it goes once we're 'logged on'.

Three hours later I noticed the clock and spied my Bible sitting on the floor by my feet, faithful little book that it is!  Hmmmm.... ok ... in a minute.  Gotta do this first.

One hour after that, I was typing an email to a protoge reminding her to 'always put God first'.  Oohhhh.... convicted.  I hit 'send' and put the laptop down!

I am totally convinced that my day would have been more productive, peaceful and joyous if I had let that call go to voice mail and drank my coffee while reading my Bible instead of my email.  I know this because I've experienced it time and again.  But, I'm like the Israelites.  I forget alot!  So...just in case you're like me and have forgotten today... go get your Bible and pray!!  I'll be here when you're done....smile.

Information You Need:

TAXES?  Yikes!

Self Employed Individuals & Independent Contractors

I've received several requests from some of our faithful readers for information about taxes for the self employed.  My first reaction was, "Wow, now that's a scary topic...isn't it?"  As it turns out, it's not nearly as frightening as I thought it would be.   The IRS has put up a wonderful website to help the 'average person' like most of us learn what we need to know without being intimidated or overwhelmed.

Rather than try to teach on a subject that I'm not an expert on, I decided to introduce you to this valuable resource.  Here, you'll find the information you need straight from 'the horse's mouth'.  Below is a copy of the homepage for the IRS website that will help you learn what you need to know.  Each of the headings contains a live link to the IRS page(s) for that topic.

Who is Self-Employed?
If you are in business for yourself, carry on a trade or business as a sole proprietor or an independent contractor, you generally would consider yourself as a self-employed individual. You are an independent contractor if the person for whom you perform services for has only the right to control or direct the result of your work, not what will be done, or how it will be done.

Licenses or Permits Needed to Operate Your Business
Although the IRS does not require you to have any licenses, permits or sales tax numbers to operate your business, they may be required by your state or local jurisdiction.

Do I Need an Identification Number?
You must have a taxpayer identification number to operate your business. This is generally your social security number, or an individual taxpayer number. However if you have employees, and in some other circumstances, you will need an Employer Identification Number.

Filing Requirements for the Self-Employed
As a self-employed individual, you may be responsible for completing multiple tax forms, depending on your type of business.

IRS e-file for Business and the Self-Employed
Electronic filing and payment options for businesses and self-employed individuals including employment taxes, information returns, partnerships returns, and returns for estates & trusts. You can also electronically file corporate tax returns (Forms 1120/1120S), and returns for exempt organizations (Forms 990/990EZ & 1120 POL).

Useful Forms and Publications
A collection of relevant forms and publications related to understanding and fulfilling your filing requirements.

Where to File Addresses
Where to file addresses for individuals, businesses, and tax practitioners.

Operating a Business
Learn about the various responsibilities associated with operating your own business. You will find many topics, such as: types of business taxes that may apply, how to structure retirement plans for your employees, deducting the cost of running your business, and much more.

Closing a Business
There is more involved in closing your business than just locking the doors. This section provides procedures for getting out of business, including what forms to file and how to handle additional revenue received or expenses you may incur.
